Batter & Berries Opens South Loop Location, Expanding Presence Across Chicagoland
CHICAGO—Batter & Berries, the vibrant and community-rooted brunch restaurant known for its inventive dishes and colorful décor, has opened its third location in Chicago’s South Loop at 2318 S. State St. The expansion brings the Black-owned brand's signature flavor and energy to a fast-growing neighborhood marked by a blend of college campuses, residential high-rises, and cultural landmarks.
Originally launched in 2012 in Lincoln Park at 2748 N. Lincoln Ave., Batter & Berries quickly became a destination for brunch lovers across the city and beyond. A second location opened in suburban Olympia Fields at 3462 Vollmer Rd., extending its reach to the South Suburbs. With the opening of the South Loop location, Batter & Berries now serves a wider cross-section of the Chicagoland community with three distinct dining venues.
The restaurant is best known for its scratch-made “Cluck & Gravy” chicken and waffles, rotating French toast flights, and gourmet breakfast and lunch offerings that feature locally sourced ingredients. Each location offers a unique atmosphere while staying true to the brand’s roots in hospitality, culinary creativity, and Black cultural pride.
More than just a place to eat, Batter & Berries has also served as a beacon for economic empowerment and cultural expression. Its founders have prioritized supporting Black farmers, local artists, and minority-owned suppliers, creating a business model that emphasizes community wealth-building and inclusive opportunity.
The South Loop opening reflects continued momentum for the brand at a time when many restaurants face rising costs and evolving customer habits. By strategically expanding into a neighborhood with a growing residential and student population, Batter & Berries is positioned to attract a broad customer base while maintaining its strong community ties.
All three locations offer dine-in and takeout service, with menus and hours available at batterandberries.com. The South Loop spot is expected to draw crowds from across the city, especially on weekends, as word spreads about the newest home of one of Chicago’s most beloved brunch institutions.
With this expansion, Batter & Berries affirms its place as more than a restaurant—it remains a cultural staple and a symbol of Black entrepreneurship thriving in Chicago’s culinary scene.
